Taking a poll and hoping to gain support for an extra forum for Security.

I think it should go under "Resources" because I believe all these "hacked" threads should not fall under official support unless the site was compromised by the actual MyBB script and not poor hosting, plugins, or other exploit.

The Security forum could also include things like Spam Prevention. I feel there is a growing number of threads spread out on the site and one forum section with good stickies would be better organized.

Here is my base concept:

Forum Name: Security, Spam Prevention, and Site Recovery
Description: "Discussion on stopping spam, recovering websites, and security related matters."

Threads that would belong include:
http://community.mybb.com/thread-106008.html
http://community.mybb.com/thread-105907.html
http://community.mybb.com/thread-105647.html

A search for "hacked" in title brings up 4 pages most in General Support. So maybe a subforum in that section would be appropriate.

A search for "spam" in title brings up 7 pages. Most could be moved into this new section I'm proposing.

A title search for "security" also bring up 6 more pages of results. So that's 27 pages that could be used to start the new section

If you read General Support Readme there is no mention of security, hacking, or spam prevention.

So that's my proposal and reasoning. I'm also attaching a poll to see if community would support the idea.

Thank you for your time.
+1

Hasn't this been proposed before? Toungue
I've mentioned it a couple times but decided to make an official proposal with full explanation and a poll. Smile

agreed

I see a lot of "Blame you all" - "Mybb Exploit" in Thread titles but reading it's basically because those admins didn't change AdminCP default name wich is a very basic security recommended routine
I see no disadvantage to it. It would be a great place for MyBB users to just learn better security practices. Instead of just blaming MyBB like others have said.
We agreed in our meeting at the beginning of October that there would be a new forum. It will be available alongside the release of MyBB 1.6.5.
Oh thanks Tomm. Hope you still keep this thread open for comments though. Smile Took me 10 mins to write the thread and even changed my sig for it. Sucks to do that for 4 replies. Sad
