Is it at all possible to modify the current calendar function, so that you can add an additional field, eg the location of the events?
I can't find this on the web but surely others have the same requirements for more than just the title and date?
I don't think it provides possiblity to add additional fields, but a more advanced calendar would be this:

Thanks for that one. I have tried to install and the calendar now goes to the new one but I can't create or view events.
Where you I find the plugin controls to make adjustments, etc?

I really like the idea of this. However when I added it, it put a Location: Not specified entry into all my Calendar events, but I couldn't find how to actually specify the location. Such a field did not appear on the Event entry form.
Is there something I am missing?
