Hello, I am just wondering how do i add a extra option (like radio button) to the New Thread section which when set to "Yes" will add a field to a new column in the threads table?

I am trying to make a optional "Post to Portal" option and i can easily modify the portal.php to work with only Threads with that new field set but i just don't know how to add the option during thread post either as a plugin or core mod (patches) 

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry if this is the wrong section, closest section i could find.

im guessing most of the 1.6 stuff will be the same as the 1.8 stuff

OK i got 1 half working, now to mod the portal (might be easer to just edit the code manually, or patches.)
