Hi everyone,
I remember that years ago, MyBB used to have a list of "Official International Support Sites." This structure was later phased out, and local communities were moved to a third-party status.

As we are approaching the major release of MyBB 1.9, which brings significant changes to the engine, I was wondering: Has there been any discussion about reviving the "official" status for local communities?

I believe that having official regional hubs could help:

Standardize Support: Ensuring that local users get accurate information consistent with the core team's vision.

Trust & Growth: New users are more likely to adopt MyBB if they see an official presence in their native language.

Better Translation Management: Official hubs could work directly with the core team to keep language packs up-to-date for every release.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it feasible to bring back a verified list of country-specific support sites with 1.9, or is the current 3rd-party model preferred for maintenance reasons?

Looking forward to hearing from the team and the community!

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed that quite a few MyBB extends haven’t been updated in a while to match newer PHP versions or even newer MyBB versions and changes, which is understandable since many authors have likely moved on or are busy with other things.

I’m curious about what the correct approach would be if someone wanted to update or extend one of these older extensions. For example:

Is it acceptable to release an updated version (and possibly with a new name) that reflects its updated functions or design, as long as proper credit is given to the original author?

Should we try to contact the original author first, or just clearly state in the description that it’s a continuation or fork?

Are there any official guidelines or best practices for this within the MyBB community?

I just don’t want to create extends that basically do the same things under a different name, so I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts and experiences, especially from developers who’ve done this before if any.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I noticed the visual change that was made a few days ago. The way category titles and the forum/topic/author links under them are now colored differently for each category is something I really liked.

For quite some time, even though there have been background improvements, the forum itself felt a bit static and monotonous on the surface. This small touch has broken that monotony and given the forum a more lively and colorful atmosphere.

Thanks to everyone involved — I think this is a very nice improvement. 👌

Furthermore, I would be in favor of not only recommending but also requiring the specification of a board URL in support in order to see whether the requesting board complies with the Support Egilibility Policy, including with regard to MyBB copyright.
Some of the free supporters have become a little more suspicious since the case a month ago.
I would first like to apologize to Laird for using his topic with the survey for another initiative. We have been working on this initiative for quite some time
Omar G. is right, we should separate that and that is what I want to do with this topic

He wrote:

(2024-11-23, 11:19 PM)Omar G. Wrote: Even if added, we can't force people to share their forum domain, as some might even work off the public net.

Of course you can't force anyone to reveal their URL, but in my opinion anyone who has nothing to hide can do so.
I've had forums that were completely closed to guests, but I could have given a URL at any time. Often just a look at the source code is enough to identify errors in the cookies or the board URL. Without a URL you can only guess.

Is every site that doesn't reveal a URL to be classified as criminal? Certainly not, but the suspicion quickly arises that something is illegal or violates the support guidelines, e.g. lack of copyright from MyBB, if you don't want to show it. At least that's how I feel.
If you hang out on the darknet, you're certainly not doing it to sell children's books or sweets. There will be reasons for that. So as a free supporter, such boards are out of the question for me anyway; I don't want to and won't give any support there.

Since MyBB cannot force people to do this, although Omar G. mentioned plans in the other thread to make it mandatory, the only thing left to do is to decide for yourself whether you want to provide help without a URL or not. Better than nothing? Or is there a way to make the recommended URL a mandatory URL?

What do you think?

thanks in advance
Furthermore, I would be in favor of not only recommending but also requiring the specification of a board URL in support in order to see whether the requesting board complies with the Support Egilibility Policy, including with regard to MyBB copyright.
Some of the free supporters have become a little more suspicious since the case a month ago.
I would first like to apologize to Laird for using his topic with the survey for another initiative. We have been working on this initiative for quite some time
Omar G. is right, we should separate that and that is what I want to do with this topic

He wrote:

(2024-11-23, 11:19 PM)Omar G.

Context

The proposed changes that you're being invited to vote on are motivated by the MyBB staff response to the admin of a MyBB board for paedophiles seeking support on our forums. Community dissatisfaction with that response came to a head in the thread Need reply to a post in locked thread!

Given the lack of public follow-up on this by staff more than a month later, I am taking the initiative myself.

Proposed changes

Two changes are proposed to the Code of Conduct.

The first inserts a new entry into the list under "Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:". This is that proposed new entry:

Apologism for unethical behaviour such as unrestrained paedophilia, or distribution in a sexualised context of images of children (these examples compelling exclusion from the community)

The second is to append to the first sentence under "Scope" which currently reads:

"This Code of Conduct applies both within project spaces and in public spaces when an individual is representing the project or its community."

After the change is appended, it would read:

"This Code of Conduct applies both within project spaces and in public spaces when an individual is representing the project or its community, as well as within independently-run boards whose administrators are seeking support from, or (continuing) membership of, the project's community."

Rationale

Combined, had these changes been in effect for the situation that motivate them, the admin of the board for paedophiles on which images of children were distributed in a sexualised context would have been summarily banned from our community.

The first change makes it clear that:

Unacceptable behaviour includes not just unethical behaviour, but also apologism for unethical behaviour.

Unethical behaviour for which apologism for is unacceptable includes unrestrained paedophilia.

Merely having the proclivities of a paedophile is not in itself unethical behaviour; it is the failure to restrain those proclivities that constitutes unethical behaviour (this is to satisfy staff concerns about human rights).

Distributing images of children in a sexualised context constitutes such unrestrained paedophilia, noting that:

The images themselves don't need to be sexual in nature; it is the sexualised context that matters, e.g., their being posted on a board for the gratification of paedophiles.

Either apologism for unrestrained paedophilia or unrestrained paedophilia itself in the form of distributing such images is unconditionally a bannable offence.
I do not logout here, and I carefully manage retained cookies, particularly when clearing browser cache. I use two main computers to access this community. Both confirmed a forced logout which required me to go through the very tedious hcaptcha process four times (and it is rarely a single hcaptcha step) which includes

1. verification to login using a known and browser-saved password which is rejected for being too simple,
2. verification of email to reset the password,
3. verification to complete the reset process, then
4. verification to log in with the new password.

It's enough to confirm that I am a human angry enough to say "be done with the nonsense or I'll be done." The irony of all the captcha systems is that input is used to train AI to recognize patterns in images. "Prove you're not a bot.
I have to ask as it is winding me up some what!

In this post (in a locked thread so I cannot reply there) https://community.mybb.com/thread-242014...pid1397162 a "Staff" member stated:

Now what does this mean?

Does it mean:

That pedophilia is considered as "OK" by the staff member?

Or that pedophilia is not a problem in "globalized nations that respect Human Rights" <<< BUT what does that ACTUALLY mean?

Pedophilia is a massive problem worldwide!

It is morally and ethically so bloody wrong .... It is a mental sickness of the highest degree.

Anyone who promotes any sexualization of CHILDREN is a complete and utter demonic being .... totally SICK to the core (if they had a 'soul' in the past then they have now given such to EVIL)!

I want to know what was meant by that statement .... I will not interact on a site where the "Staff" considers the abuse of children to be "OK"!

And I also want to ask any moral members .... Is there another forum which helps with the MyBB code (one which considers pedophilia as the sick, twisted, demonic sh*t it is)?
