Hello,

from admin point of view, when I RSS subscribe to a new threads at /misc.php?action=syndication in aim to spot offtopic threads and SPAM, it would be handy in the feed to see in which forum the thread has been posted, that would allow me to see (in the RSS reader) if this thread is offtopic, without need to open the website.

Please do you suggest any patch to a /syndication.php (or can it be improved for everyone) or this would require yet another plugin? If it would be about plugin, I am willing to contribute some $ or ETH.

Our forum is being crushed by what appears to be agentic traffic. We've gone from a few thousand visits per day to about 300,000 visits per day.

It's impossible to block all these IP addresses in the server firewall (or the forum firewall). Many of them appear to be coming from SIM farms (smartphone SIM cards networked together to create hundreds or thousands of fake users).

But many of them also appear to be coming from major cloud platforms like Cloudflare, Microsoft, Oracle, et. al. We can't simply block those platforms because last year Apple launched a private relay network (proxy service) that allows its users to surf the Web anonymously. They use a 2-layer network where they send the proxy traffic through the cloud platforms (and maybe other services). So when we blocked those platforms we blocked legitimate users.

We're hoping someone is developing a plugin that creates an MCP server. There's no knowing how many of these hundreds of thousands of visitors are actually browser agents (or whatever) that would use the MCP instead of scraping the forum, but any relief would be better than none.

I am looking to get a plugin that would allow one email/password user to own/create multiple usernames&profiles (and switch between them)

This is specifically for a roleplay forum where- ideally- one user can own multiple characters, make profiles for them and write as them!

My php knowledge is ever-expanding and I do think I could do this with better understanding of the mybb code structure but I really want help on the project. And since I get the feeling this might be fairly doable depending on how well-structured the mybb code is, I thought I'd ask ^^

Hey guys!

first of all, im totally new to myBB

i was long time phpbb3 user...

but i decided to switch to myBB 2 months ago...and i dont regret it!

i dived deep into mechanics and so on...

but there are two functions that i had im my old phpbb board, that seem to have no equvivalent plugin on myBB

so maybe i am blind, and the plugins already exist...but if not, i guess i must make my own or pay someone to make one

so sorry, if this is the wrong place for asking this, but i think it should fit in here?

first of all

i host a board for roleplay writing

and i have a reward system for the amount of words written

i can decide in WHICH forums WHICH groups can earn these rewards
the amount of awards can be adjusted in the plugin too

so for example

user in group5 (with premission to post in forum3)
writes a rpg post

it contains 1000 words

than following happens

in the postbit next to posting time standing: [total words: 1000] (this is a database value)

than two following things happen

first: the database or the forum checks: how many words? how many points/reward for them, and is there any post in any forum/topic that has more words?

after this

the user gets a amount of points depending on how many words he written (for example, i grant 0,01 point for EACH word) the 0.01 is adjustable...in acp

than the database does following

adding the total words to the post-id table
adding the total amount of earned reward points in the post-id
adding this amount of earned reward points to the user total amount

(when editing, changing author or deleting, the reward points are re calculated)

after this

these values are shown around the forum (most of them on index)

first: longest ever written post (total amount of words in one post) +author - shown on the index statistic page

second: top 10 users with most reward points on index statistics + (link to a overall list with ALL users ranked in reward points from highes to lowest)

third: total amount of WORDS written in all counted forums/topics
forth: total amount of reward points of ALL users that have reward points

the amount of each user personal total reward points is shown in memberlist, profile, postbin next to total posts, and on index next to the name

i only found some point systems that reward for new topics, or new posts...or charakters? but not for words
i guess a reward system based on charakters could work here too but i dont want to reward users for POSTS, TOPICS or stuff like that. Only for CONTENT

and i found some plugins for counting words or characters, but it seems these values are not saved into database...so its useless for me?

if there are ANY plugins that do the job i want, could you give me a link to the developer?

if there is no plugin like that i must do my own

thanks so far

For example, in September, I could post a thread for a Halloween short story writing contest that is closed to new posts. On thread creation, I can set it to open at 12 am on Oct 1 so people can start posting their stories. I could also set the thread to close at 12am on Nov 1 so no more submissions/responses could be posted. If I recall the feature correctly, the thread was visible, just automatically locked/unlocked at certain times.

Is that something that a plugin already exists for? Or would be feasible to create?
Thank you for your time.

I’m working on a MyBB-based forum centered around TV and streaming discussions.
I’d like to add a “watchlist” or “favorites” feature where members can mark and view the shows they’re currently watching or plan to watch later.

Has anyone implemented something similar before — maybe through a plugin or custom template edit?
Would it be better to build a separate plugin for this, or adapt MyBB’s existing user profile or reputation systems?

Any guidance or examples would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

RAWG.io is a free gaming database and discovery API (like IMDb but for games).

A MyBB plugin for RAWG.io would let you integrate that massive game database directly into your forum.

🎮 Features a RAWG.io → MyBB Plugin Could Provide

Game Database Integration
Allow users to search for and insert game info from RAWG.io directly into posts or threads.

Gamercard / Game Badge
Show a little game card in posts with cover art, release date, genre, and platforms.

Automatic Game Threads
Create threads automatically when a new game is released, pulling data (cover, trailer, description, rating) from RAWG.

Profile Game Collections
Let users add their “Favorite Games” or “Currently Playing” to their profiles by pulling data from RAWG.

Game Reviews & Ratings
Add a custom forum section where users can review games. The plugin would attach RAWG data (official info, screenshots, etc.) to the review thread.

Achievements / Leaderboards (optional)
While RAWG doesn’t give Xbox/PlayStation live achievements, it can sync info like popularity or rating—this could be shown in leaderboards for “Most Discussed Games.”

🔧 How It Works

Get a free RAWG.io API key.

Install the MyBB plugin (it would add templates, new profile fields, and parsing functions).

Configure the plugin with your API key.

Forum users and admins could now:

Insert

[game]Halo Infinite[/game]

into posts, and it auto-generates a styled game card.

Browse a “Games” section on your forum that syncs with RAWG’s database.

✅ Why RAWG.io Works Well

Free & No Trial → Unlike Microsoft’s Xbox API or PlayStation’s closed APIs, RAWG is free and community-supported.

Cross-platform → Includes data from Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC in one API.

Rich Metadata → Game covers, trailers, release dates, genres, ratings, stores, etc.

I’ve been brainstorming a new plugin idea for the gaming community side of MyBB. Since there’s almost no Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo integration out there for MyBB, I thought — why not take advantage of RAWG.io?

[Idea Thread] 🚀 Xbox API Plugins for MyBB

Hey everyone,

Just kidding….. 😅 But seriously, I spent some time digging through MyBB.com and the Extend section to see if any developers have ever made Xbox API plugins for MyBB. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a single one out there.

That got me thinking — there’s a huge opportunity here for gaming communities who use MyBB. Imagine being able to connect Xbox Live directly into your forum. So, I brainstormed some potential plugin ideas that could actually make MyBB stand out for Xbox gamers.

Here are 🔟 Xbox Plugin Ideas for MyBB:

🎮 1. Xbox Gamertag Profile Integration

Users enter their gamertag in their profile.

Plugin fetches avatar, gamerscore, and recent games played via Xbox API.

Information shows up in posts, on profiles, or in a custom usercard.

🟢 2. Xbox Live Status Indicator

Displays whether a user is Online, Offline, In-Game, or Streaming via Xbox.

Could show as a colored badge next to usernames in posts and threads.

📚 3. Xbox Game Library Showcase

Pulls a user’s Xbox game library and shows it in their profile.

Option to compare with other users to find shared games.

🏆 4. Recent Achievements Feed

Auto-displays achievements like:
“User unlocked achievement XYZ in Halo Infinite!”

Could appear in a profile sidebar or even as an optional activity feed thread.

👥 5. Xbox Party & LFG (Looking for Group) Tool

Lets users create or join Xbox parties directly from the forum.

Can generate live “Looking for Group” threads for multiplayer matchmaking.

🎥 6. Xbox Clip & Screenshot Embedder

Users paste an Xbox clip link → plugin automatically embeds the video/screenshot.

Supports Xbox DVR/Clips API for inline viewing.

📊 7. Gamerscore Leaderboard Widget

Sidebar widget ranking members by total gamerscore.

Could reset weekly/monthly to highlight top scorers.

Badge system for winners!

🎯 8. Game-Specific Forum Stats Sync

Syncs stats for popular games (Halo, Forza, COD, Minecraft).

Displays key data (K/D, wins, lap times) directly in profiles.

✅ 9. Xbox Account Verification

Users verify their gamertag by signing in with Microsoft OAuth.

A “Verified Xbox” badge gets added to their forum account.

🏅 10. Forum Achievements Linked to Xbox

Hybrid plugin: forum achievements mirror real Xbox milestones.

Example: unlock a MyBB badge when you hit 10,000 Gamerscore or finish a big milestone in a game.

💡 These plugins could seriously level-up (pun intended) gaming forums running MyBB. Obviously, they’d need some API integration with Microsoft/Xbox Live, but it’s all possible using the Xbox Live REST API or Microsoft Graph API.

👉 So, what do you all think?

Would you use these on your forum?

Which one stands out the most?

Any devs interested in making one a reality?
