Creating monthly directories for attachments without chmodding them to 0777 causes problems on servers with safe mode on. On one of my installations the problem occured, that the directory is created successfully, but not writeable afterwards. The fallback to maindirectory is not triggered, because the directory exists.

Thanks for your bug report - I was actually under the impression checking for this was already in place, but it appears not. Can you upload the attached version of inc/functions_upload.php to your forum and see if you're able to successfully upload attachments then?
