RE: blank page
It has to do with database encoding on mysql <4.4
in the files inc/db_mysgl and inc/db_mysqli i added the line:
'' => 'none',
in the long list with encoding options.
There are two lists in the files so I added the line twice.

During install I selected the option database encoding 'none' and that did the trick for me.

RE: blank page
I too am having this same problem. Except I am not installing my forum. It has been installed for a year now and has gained a lot of popularity, so it's important that I get it back and running again =S

No idea what to do. My mySQL version is: 5.0.67

RE: blank page
Hello all.
I encountered same problem trying to do a clean install of the latest version.
After Database Configuration i click next and page loads into... blank page. No error, no messages, just empty page.
MySQL client version: 4.0.26 here.
And i got no access to upgrade sql to latest version.
What solution of those mentioned in this thread should i try?
I remember previously installing version 1.2xx fine, but i don't really want to use the primitive "install version 1.2xx and upgrade to version 1.4xx" solution. It ain't a normal human solution to the issue.

Thanks much.

p.s. I could supply a trusted admin with phpMyAdmin link and username with password to directly check if my sql its all ok and ready

RE: blank page
Hate to post twice in a row but it seems to me that with version 1.4x i am stuck right at the beginning of board installation. I guess that isn't good, and probably could be considered as omitted compatibility issue for version 1.4x.

p.s. i am really glad i was smart enough to not kill that insecure yet still efficiently and nicely working old release candidate 4 board, cause if i would, I'd be in a deep a$$ now Smile

RE: blank page
The normal suggestion is to upgrade to mySQL - even if you don't have access to upgrade it yourself, ask someone or ask your host to complete the upgrade.

MySQL 4 is relatively old, so upgrading brings nothing but advantages.

However, if you're not able to do it, then the only way would be to do the 1.2 => 1.4 method. Yes, it's tedious, but it's the easiest way...

Curious, how many hosts will react respectively when a customer would request them to upgrade this or that on their server Toungue, especially if they offer hosting for free Smile

I'd surely use the 1.2 => 1.4 method if I'd be sure it works 100%, cause I've seen people saying it doesn't...

RE: blank page
If you're using a free host, which one are you using? There's a few out there (quite good ones) that have mySQL 5.

If changing hosts is out of the question, then we'll need to give you a MyBB package that is "installed", and you just upload the contents. Unfortunately, I can't at the moment, so hopefully someone will be able to do that for you if it's needed Smile
