MyBB 1.0 PR2 Released
Introduction

As of the time of this post, we're announcing the immediate availability of MyBB 1.0 PR2 to the general public. We're doing this for a number of reasons:
  • Before we release a product branded "1.0" we'd like to make sure it is as compatible as possible with all servers and that as many bugs are cleared up before the release.
  • There has been another security whole found in MyBB RC4 and we feel that instead of releasing another security update and possibly having future RC4 exploits found, we'd release a stable-enough-to-use copy of MyBB 1.0 PR2.
This copy of MyBB is stable enough for mainstream use and we've included an upgrade script to ensure you can update your board from RC4 (or all the way back from RC2) to 1.0 Preview Release 2 with minor problems.

Obtaining the Release

As always, the release can be obtained from the official site at http://www.mybboard.com/downloads.php in three different formats: zip, tar.gz and tar.bz2.

Installation Instructions

For installation, please see the included documents in the docs folder of the release. If the download you obtained does not contain these files, you can get them here:
[attachment=1230]

Upgrade Instructions

This release makes major changes to your database in terms of the way passwords are stored, attachments, themes and template sets. BACK UP your database before upgrading. This cannot be stressed enough, and if you don't back it up and something goes wrong, we can't help you fix your board.

Additionally, if you are currently using a non-English language pack for MyBulletinBoard please change your language settings to English before upgrading.

All of your existing themes and templates will be lost - please back them up now

Upload all files in the archive with the exception of
  • inc/config.php
  • inc/settings.php
You will also have to make sure the uploads directory and uploads/avatars directories are uploaded and writable by the server.

Run install/upgrade and make sure the version of MyBB you were previously using is selected

Reporting Bugs

As with all releases of MyBB, there will be bugs. 1.0 PR2 is no exception to that.

Please continue to report any bugs you find in to the Bug Reports forum. Please try to be as detailed as possible and provide screenshots and URL's where necessary.

We're here to help you, so please help us too.

RE: MyBB 1.0 PR2 Released
New Features

You'll notice that this version of MyBB contains a lot of noticeable changes and additional functionality. A few of these include:
  • Addition of a plug-in system on the front-end of the board with over 100 different plug-in hooks
  • A redesigned theme system allowing full control over the themes with CSS
  • Users can be apart of more than one user group (with permission inheritance)
  • Administrators can create publicly joinable groups and set a certain group as a users display group
  • A built in "archive" (lite) of the forums
  • Attachment quotas can be specified per user group
  • Users can see a list of attachments they have posted in the User CP
  • Posts can be saved as drafts for later editing or revisions
  • Individual forums can have rules attached to them either inline or on a linked page
  • A reason can be specified when banning members - which is then shown to them when they try to access the board
  • Users can opt to receive notification of new private messages
  • Avatars can now be restricted by size (width and height)
  • The internal avatars now contain support for avatar galleries - allowing avatars to be divided up
  • Search bots such as GoogleBot, Yahoo! Slurp, MSN Bot and others are now detected and shown appropriately on the Who's Online
  • Attachments and avatars are now stored in the file system - reducing the size of your database making it quicker to query
There are many more changes in this release, a lot to do with the backend code:
  • Input variables (GET and POST) are now filtered through a system making sure slashing is correct and certain variables are of a certain type
  • Passwords stored in the database are now stored in a 'salted' state so that a users stored password in the database will always be different even if they use the same password elsewhere
  • User authentication is now done using a login key - for the future implementation of external authentication sources
  • Beginning of separation of certain functions into library files and classes so that the source is more organized
Once again, there are still many changes in this release; Iíve only decided to mention a few.

What's Next

1.0 PR2 is a significant milestone to getting MyBB 1.0 out the door. 1.0 PR1 was an internal beta, 1.0 PR2 is now our internal and public beta.

Between now and the release of 1.0 we'll be accepting nothing but bug reports. No new features will be added in this time period.

After 1.0 is released we'll be working on the next version of MyBB, which before you mention it, will be free too, with many new features including AJAX, template differences and revisions and lots of other things. We'll also continue to fix all of the bugs you report to us.

Upgrade Notes

If after the upgrade you notice that your old posts and thread subjects contain slashes, please upload the attached PHP file to your forums directory and run it via your web browser. This will attempt to remove any additional slashes. NOTE: You should only ever do this ONCE to prevent other slashes from being removed.

If you are receiving maximum memory limit reached or maximum time limit reached errors when converting attachments, click the back button in your browser and change the number of attachments per page to something smaller. If it still occurs, you need to get your host to temporarily increase the maxiumum memory limit for PHP scripts via php.ini.
