I'm puzzled. Got it all setup no error to speak of but the plugin just isn't posting to my news forum on mybb. I have no idea what's happening as there's no errors

Yes, sometimes there are not errors, you have to figure out what is going on.

I have a solution to solve "Default username does not exsit"
Go to your wp plugin and click on edit.
Find this
if(empty($prefix))
$prefix=’mybb_’;

and then go to forums phpmyadmin and see what prefix of your database and
just remove
$prefix=’mybb_’; "mybb" to your database prefix.
Its solved.
