My guess with currency is perhaps to do with your primary currency.
Eg, it will try to convert your primary currency to the target currency, but if you don't have enough in your primary currency, it doesn't know what currency you wish to convert from.
I still would've at least preferred some explanation of this on the payment page, rather than just dump me with an eCheque only option, and perhaps options to select which currency to convert from...

EDIT: okay with the payment, I noticed the text "If you don't have sufficient funds this second funding source will be used" so I just tried it and it worked. I guess it displays the eCheque thing if it suspects you may run out of funds or something.
