It would be nice to have a feature to stop certain forums from appearing in peoples view new posts function as i would like to RSS some content into my forum but it always cloggs up the latest threads and view new posts.

I agree with this, it'd be nice to have this little change. You can probably get a plugin that does this, try asking Yaldaram.
