When I made the mistake of upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop I had to switch to xfce too, unity and gnome 3 are stupid...are there any updated distros that exist that use gnome 2, or at least let you install/use it?

Arch comes with no real gui out of the box letting you use what ever one you want .
