My little support forum for my small software website is being inundated by spam. I used to get one or two spammers a day that I could clean up with Goodbye Spammer, but now I'm getting two dozen spams a day including the appearance of porn images. Angry The stupidity of it is I don't have any traffic for these bloody spammers to sell to!

I've tried the "Fassim Anti Forum Spam" and "Stopforumspam.com for MyBB - Spam prevention", but after uploading the files into my Plugins folder alongside Goodbye Spammer, they don't appear in ACP. I'm running 1.6.2.

What can I do?!! Most seriously to stop the images. I can find the cap for how many images are allowed including smilies, but this doesn't allow a total block on images.
First of all, update to 1.6.4 for definite. It's not advised to carry on using an old version.

Secondly, the following article might help you a bit: http://www.mypurebb.com/129-combating-spam-in-mybb/

As for the plugins not showing up, are you sure you added them correctly?
Do you allow guest posting? If its a support forum then really they should register. Use g33K's registration question and the default profile. Prevent changes to signatures.

ZingaBurga has JUST released the Spamalyser which can be found on

Looks like these forums are having spambots at visit too.
I have restricted my users access to signature and edit link on profile to 15 posts i think you should do this as well as add recaptcha2 and security questions i have no problem with spammers at the moment
Use a Signup Question plugin:

I've had the same problems with spambots, but now, NONE!

Never allow guests to post, or at least you should hire a mod or two who can approve threads!
Haven't told anyone about this yet, but I'm working on something that will really help combat spam on MyBB forums. Smile
reCaptcha doesn´t work anymore IMO, even spanish forums using reCaptcha are being spammed.
Thanks, I'll try all these out. Don't allow guest posting already. Have captcha enabled. I really have got better things to do with my time though than maintain a tiny little user forum. Friggin' lousy spammers. Can't someone find a way to DOS the spam originators or something?!

Actually, serious question, as they need email activation the email addresses must be valid. Doesn't that give an attack vector? I suppose the email address only looks for registration codes so filling it with junk won't help.
