Is there a way, as the admin, to control the sorting order in which posts are displayed, other than by 'last post', in the Forum threads display under the Thread/Author column heading, other than by updating each one according to the order you would like them to be displayed as 'last post' ?

Not sure if terminology is correct in question, so may need some help with the question itself.

You mean to change the last post order ?

Thank you for the followup.
Yes, would like to change the thread title display order independent of the 'last post' order... ie set the thread title display order independent of the date of the last post.

If I've understand you right then you would need this;
http://community.mybb.com/thread-31211-p...#pid209212
and Make an edit: http://community.mybb.com/thread-31211-p...#pid210012

Anyone else have an idea on how to get to the above links and/or if they answer the initial question ?
hi,
the urls are some kind of corrupt, just
its this thread: http://community.mybb.com/thread-31211.html

post 8:
http://community.mybb.com/thread-31211-p...#pid209212
and post 12
http://community.mybb.com/thread-31211-p...#pid210012

I don't know the answer as I can't technically answer the question, but I know how to read a mybb url Smile
(Just cut the part after thread-31211 and put a .html there, then search for the correct post .. if you have to search once more for something like this.
I don't know why mybb did this but it shortened the urls - normally it just shortens the visible part, but in this case both were shortened, the visible and the "url" part itself.) hmm.

have to go to bed, hope this helps you.
To set the sort order to, for example, by author ,then go to Forum Management and select the forum you want to sort.

In edit forum settings scroll to

Default View Options
and select from the list.

Thank you for the tip.
As usual, missed the obvious.

Was hoping there may be some way to show the thread list in a custom 1, 2, 3... order.
With the above admin control am able to control the list display, by 'subject' with dots, like...
...subjects1
..subject2
.subjecter3
but would like to be able to do it with out needing to modify the thread 'subject' if possible.

Also, would like to have the 1st thread, '...contents1', show up in the 'last post' column at the Category/Forum display on the main page to the forum, regardless of the date of the post.
Maybe then would need to change the name of that column from 'last post', to 'first post', but 1st need to figure out how to change the display, if possible.

Thoughts ?
Also, hope the question makes sense, am not a programmer per se, so may not be using the right words.

Please let me know if need further clarification
Thanks again for your reply.

For this, I suggest you take a look at XThreads. XThreads will not actually DO anything for your forum - you have to do it yourself, but it opens an amazing number of possibilities for editing forums/threads/posts to your exact specifications.

In order to use it you really should have a more than basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.

XThreads - possibly the plugin of the century Smile
