How do I make it so that in a certain section, a user can only see threads that he/she has created?

You can do this by going to your admin panel -> Forums & Posts -> Click 'Options' on the forum you want to add this to -> Permissions -> Set Custom Permissions for Registered Users group.

You can then tick the option: Can only view own threads?
