Hello I'm still running 1.6.3 and wish to update, but as I've read all files have been updated and so if I replace them with my current files I'll pretty much get a scratch mybb 1.6.4 version, or not?

I've made a lot of changes, some of them were even made by others meaning that it would be impossible for me to do it all again.

What should I do?

can you make a list of what changes have been done - first take a complete backup (both files & database)
{ may be you have to hire someone ... }

I can't even list them, there's really many changes...

Just the plugins alone did their part.

most of the plug-ins installed for 1.6.3 should work for 1.6.4 AND you can have a backup
installation of current forum in your own computer to modify the upgraded installation ...

I guess I'll try it then...
