Well when you download a plugin, you upload all of the files in the .RAR to your root directory. If the .RAR contains a single folder that is irrelevant to MyBB, like the name of the plugin you downloaded, open that folder, and upload everything inside of that to your root directory. Once everything is uploaded, head over to Admin CP > Configuration > Plugins > Find the plugin you just uploaded > Click install & activate, or install.

The root directory is where you installed your forum. In it, you should find the following files:
index.php
edipost.php
captcha.php
etc

Then you can't upload a plugin.
