Description:

->Shows the min. message length until it is reached
-> If the min message length is reached it shows the max. message length and the remaining characters (before you reach the max. message length) above the textarea in real time.
-> Shows an alert, if the max. message length is reached
-> Available for new threads, new replys, pm's, post editing and quick reply
-> User must have java script enabled.
-> English and German language files included
-> Template edits are applied automatically if a new theme is added or imported


Installation:

1. Upload the content of the Upload folder into your forum home directory.
2. Go to your "Admin-CP: Configuration - Plugins" and click "Activate" behind "Character Count (1.4)"
3. All done.


Update:

1. GO TO YOUR "Admin-CP: Configuration - Plugins" and DEACTIVATE THE OLD VERSION OF THE PLUGIN!
2. Afterwards upload the content of the "Upload" folder into your forum home directory and overwrite the existing plugin files.
3. Go to your "Admin-CP: Configuration - Plugins" and click "Activate" behind "Character Count (1.4)".
4. All done

Oh I see. Just saw the bold max characters. Didn't notice the precursor min length. Might actually use this.

Well, you couldn't see it, because the screenshots are from version 1.2 which I haven't released yet.

I'm still testing it. I installed it in two of my live boards a few days ago. If everything work as expected I'll probably release it next week.

Hello, I find your plugins very useful. Thanks for the great job!

If I might request: could you add a new feature to this plugin:

I'd like to have an opportunity to set up several character milestones, f.e., 500character, 1000character, etc and corresponding messages:

• 500 characters -> you are doing great!
  
• 1000 characters -> something fancy is coming up, i can smell it!
  
• 1500 characters -> I'd like to see your twitter messages..
  
• 2000 characters -> Monster-post coming this way! Yeah!
  

(sample messages just to give an idea)

And then, when reaching the milestone, plugin would display the corresponding message besides character count.

It would be a great way to encourage users to write long posts.

This can be done with javascript. A plugin to do this is not needed. A simple template edit is all thats needed.
