It could be, but have you tried what G33K has suggested, and disabled all plugins and tried testing it? And have you upgraded to 1.6.4?

I upgrade o 1.6.4 last night and it is still happening. I have jot turned off all plugins because we had no issues a while back with the same ones...but I can try that.

I am in the process of changing hosts to mybbwebhost, and am hoping it makes a difference

That is a good plan. Once you have changed hosts, you can check if this is still happening. If it is, then it is most likely a plugin conflicting. If not, then it was most likely a host issue.
