I deleted all the spam users using phpmyadmin, but they still show up on the home page. It says "so many" registered users, however when I click on members they dont show. I just want to know why the home screen shows differently.

ACP-> Tools -> Recount & Rebuld -> "Recount Statistics" and GO.
In future, you should try not to delete users or anything for that matter directly from the database unless you know what you are doing. In the example of users, they are not only in the user's table but if they opened a thread/post then it is also saved there. You should use the admincp or prune option.
