At the Forum Review MyBB was assessed as a suitable forum for the community to 10.000 members and 150.000 posts. In fact, it's recommended size.

Oh honestly... Any forum is going to have issues with performance in the later stages, with very many posts. At at least 100k posts, you get access to the Big Board Owner group, which comes with a private forum, where I'm sure you can get tips from everyone who is a BBO, regarding optimization.
We also ship out cake every month to all big board owner's homes.
