Hi everyone. 'm really knew to the whole website and forum building thing so please bare with me Undecided
I have so much trouble getting my host and forum software working. I opted for SMF at first but had no trouble with trying to host them with iPage so after a little research decided that MyBB was the way to go (a blessing in disguise I hope).
Anyway I have managed to install MyBB no problems but now I am at square one with doing research as to what mods I need. I am after a little advice from you guys as to which I should use or even if the mods are actually out there?
Here is my short list...
1. An option to log in with your Facebook account
2. Some kind a anti-spam mod when registering and for general maintenance and running of the forum
3. A good banner ad mod where I can add my own banner ads on each page for revenue
4. I was also wondering if there is some kind of mod like they had on SMF called SIMPLE PORTAL which is kind of like a homepage with various blocks of information (RSS, links etc)

I hope I posted this in the right place, like I saaid I'm new to all this and really appreciiate any advice you guys can give.

Thanks,
Dean Big Grin
1. http://forums.mybbcommunity.com/thread-1381.html

2. This http://mods.mybb.com/view/registration-s...y-question and this http://mods.mybb.com/view/recaptcha are good for anti spam.

3. This http://mods.mybb.com/view/index-ads and this http://mods.mybb.com/view/postad-lite or this http://mods.mybb.com/view/advertisement-in-posts should do good.

4. A Simple portal is already included in the defult MyBB package in your installation. To find the portal just go to : http://www.yoursite.com/portal.php (example)

Hoped I helped!

How do I get that portal to become my homepage?
I did find something about adding the following line anywhere to my htaccess.txt file...

DirectoryIndex portal.php index.php

But that didn't work!!!

I've got the newest version of MyBB and the mods you guys have shown above aren't compatible with the newest version. I'm already wishing I'd stayed with SMF Sad
I gotta admit that after trying the above links I think I'm gonna change my hosting and go back to SMF. The Mods don't have any tutorials and I find trying to navigate to find the appropriate mods a real pain. MyBB may have a good reputation but for first timers I personally find it a real chore to setup. Maybe it's teething problems or maybe it's me? I'll try again once I have used something more user friendly.
Thanks for the help anyway guys Smile
Setting up the mods should be as easy as uploading them to your forum and activating/installing them in the admin CP. The well-behaved ones are layed out so that all of the files go where they should if you just dump the .zip's contents to the root of your forum. There's only 1 that I can think of that needs a core edit, and that's for an optional feature.

The Mods site up top contains a bunch of neat plugins that should just work with MyBB since they're reviewed by staff before being made available.
Uh, I don't know where you got that they aren't compatible, but they are.
Try uploading a advance modification for SMF, the come back to the simplest world of mybb plugin installation.

Really, you will find it is easiest to install mybb modifications.
