Hey,
I had this problem before where you aren't on 'Remember Me' and you are an administrator. The board is closed and you cannot log in. The only way to log in is to go to the Admin CP URL (www.yourdomain.com/admin) and turning the board on, logging in and turning the board off.
I think there should be the login fields while it's closed. Normal members will be able to see it, but once they log in the message will still be there and they won't have access to the forums. When administrators login, it will be normal, except the 'board is offline' alert will be there (as usual).
