Daily we get multiple spammers signing on. We have Aksimet activated, but can't seem to stop these weird screen name/email sign ups. Is there anything else we can do?
I see the same problem and I use this plungin. my problem solved Big Grin

Actually, we are doing that already robinex. The only thing I have had any luck with is manually approving as an admin. Nothing else has stopped them. Even the 2 prong attack of askimet and random questions.

Cest la vie
plus you can totally kill off regional posts and badbots virtually from Russia and Ukraine in your htaccess file.

Place these IPs in your deny list if you wish, below your current htaccess code.

You will need to stop the script for the page to load correctly. Smile
The region block worked for us. We were getting spammers from France and the Ukraine. Blocked those regions (among others) and no more spammers.

And even though nowadays spam is created by real humans instead of bots, there are ways to reduce it. I recommend installing these plugins:

http://mods.mybb.com/view/fassim-anitspam
http://mods.mybb.com/view/recaptcha

These should help stop most spammers during registration. But for those who get it in, you can also use these:

http://yaldaram.com/showthread.php?tid=84
http://mybbhacks.zingaburga.com/showthread.php?tid=356

Those last two are, in my opinion, the best protection you can take against spammers. Why? Spammers usually register with the goal to spam your forum with links to their client's websites. By stopping them from using links in signatures, profiles and posts, they will probably leave and never come back. Who cares about a few nonsense posts, it's free content. At least I know they failed their mission!

I find it rather ironic that those duffases add a site url and create a sig line on their profile, but since they almost never post in the forums, usually the only people that will ever see their spam attempts are those that will most likely 'take them out' ASAP. - i.e. the site's mods and admins. -- DumbF's --

I have Goodbye-Spammer installed -- not always successful, but it's improving.
I'll give the last two a try in addition to the G-S plugin.

Unfortunately, I think the only way to stop spam completely is to disconnect yourself & your site from the web. That would kinda defeat the whole purpose of the WWW though, eh? Wink
I use both the registration security questions plugin (To try to deter some bots from registering) and the spamalyzer plugin (To prevent spam posts from being posted by bots that got through) and I am now into my 3rd week spam free.

I have also the same problem, This plugin has stopped now every spam, The key thing is your security questions. Don't make them so simple and so hard, Set questions according to targetting country / area. e.g. If your traffic source is from USA you should ask about president.
like
Who is the president of USA?
option1: Bill gates
Option2: Obama
Option3: Chee li fun
If they can solve this type of questions then it means the spamers are humans and the only way to stop them is Noway (they can use proxy if you ban their ip address, they can solve your questions, this might be resolved if you change your registration page look and language(may be native lang) )
