I think that red part is the main reason for this thread.
It clearly states that we can not discus anything that may sound offensive to other users.
I don't agree with the thread in question being closed for "maybe offending someone", but I also don't see why we would need to discuss sensitive topics here anyway.
On the topic of censorship, though, I do get annoyed when certain individuals delete their posts for no apparent reason.

It's definitely not a huge issue like this thread makes it out to be.
The main reason why that thread was closed is because jokes don't have any room for discussion.
The other problem were the people arguing, not the nature of the joke. Personally, I don't think it was offensive and definitely not something worth fighting for. But there is no reason that would justify the thread remaining open. People were already arguing about religion, gods and whatnot. If we didn't end it there, it would have kept going.
No-one was censored in that thread. If anything, a fight was stopped. But then again, I'm not sure if that's the situation The Elite was referring to. If it was, I already explained why it was closed, and it seems pretty logic to me. It's all expressly written down in the rules, which a lot of people fail to read. If they read them, a lot of these situations would be avoided.
Oh, I see now, in the General Discussion forum we are not allow to create any kind of discussion that is offensive to any other member:

That is very far from censorship. It's just common sense and something all forums try to avoid (unless you run a forum like /b/). Read the following and tell me if it even makes sense:

If somebody creates a thread about religion that offenses mine, as it is offensive not just to me, but a group of people you will not have another choose but to close the thread. Now what about death penalty? Hunting?
Everything that offenses me will be close?
Users are suppose to free to speech or express their own opinions right?

I'm just giving my opinion about this thread itself (what threads will be and will be not close under what circumstances), not about how the MyBB team must run their website.
I closed the threads because it violated 2 of the general discussion rules. One being Topics must be meaningful and the other being Avoid sensitive discussion areas, which this thread could be taken the wrong way by some users.

That would depend entirely how the rest of the thread develops. We don't quite forbid the discussion of those topics. You can maintain a reasonable discussion about religion without it being closed. However, if it starts de-railing (which it usually does) it will be closed.
MyBB is open-source software. We believe in freedom of speech more than anyone else does. We only close these threads because they lead to pointless discussions that we don't want to promote. Threads aren't closed immediately just because religion is being discussed.
