My one forum is very good, as it is an old version of MyBB with great plugins. However, I just made another forum and its a new version and the plugins I use on my old forum are not updated to the new versions of MyBB. I know there are a lot of plugins out there, and I'm not asking what plugins are out there. I'm asking what do YOU USE to protect your forum, not what would use use. So basically personal experience is great here. Captchas are useless any more. 1000 captchas can be bought for less than $10 for your program on plenty of sites, we need newer ideas. I know blocking threads with certain words is great. ie. (bank, login, porn, nude, etc). This is a support forum for my software and I don't want to slow down my members by holding there accounts for 24 hours or anything ridiculous.

Thanks
This was exactly what I wasn't looking for. I'm looking for a reply along the lines of: "I have used this for X months and I have had no problems since."

It's almost like you don't read the thread.
I've used most of them and they work pretty well. I get about one spammer a week using them.

StopForumSpam is probably the best.
StpoForumSpam is still good, even though usernames are randomly generated, emails around bought by the thousands and thousands of proxies are used? I'm familiar with the process of automated forum spamming and that doesn't make sense how it helps. I got on there list once and I couldn't sign up for many forums, so I'm just wondering if this could hurt sales.

Interesting.
Stop Forum Spam (Disable username option as it blocks some good members too).
Re-captcha
Registration security question.

I used re-captcha and security questions in my previous Forum and it rarely had any spams. With Stop Forum Spam, it can be even more effective.
