My forum is www.GlobalMilitaryForum.com

I've edited the main background image by painting the middle area brown as it was transparent, so now it's easier to read the posts because the background doesn't move around.

So 2 questions to ya all:

1) The background looks ok in internet explorer but in firefox you see a large brown area around the forum, any ideas?

2) The background image size is almost 1 mb any ideas on how to shring the size for faster loading size?

That's all...
Yahoo smush it to compress images. http://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/
move the background image to sub domain (static.yourdomain.com)to allow parallel download.
Make the background image cacheable so that, when user again visits, it will load in no time
Try downloading, http://www.globalmilitaryforum.com/image...ground.png to your PC and reupload it, it'd be shrunk and try re-loading then.
