Well from a plugin standpoint you could use several different hooks, but if you only want to do it via theming or something then not sure :\
You can use showthread_end if you doing it by plugin.

And its not show_thread but it can be found in Show Thread Templates and when you expand it, it'd be showthread template at very beginning.

That is because {$posts} call the postbit for each post in the thread.
