What modifications and templates are required to make a homepage like this site has (mybb) to also include the orange boxes in the right and left columns.

Well You Would Have to Edit Your navbar To Redirect You To a Page That You Made a simple Home Page That A Lot of People Seem To Use is portal.php So Your Redirect Link Would Be

www.example.com/portal.php

And That Would Take you to a "Beginner" Home Page.

Can you give me an example, with the orange background?

There is not tutorial for this.

You write your own home page theme to make it looks like your forum theme.

I don't think this is even MyBB support.
