i just found the right theme for my forum but it Theme Version: 1.2.13
how can i manually update it for 1.46?

I don't understand. Do you mean you have a theme which have two versions namely 1.2.13 and 1.46 ?

currently the theme i have downloaded is version 1.2.13
will it work on 1.4.6 or must i update it?

Is the theme's version number 1.2.13, or is it for version 1.2.13 of MyBB? There's a difference.

^ it will work on your myBB 1.4.6 ; however it might not work as it should if you upgrade to myBB 1.6.x
AND its better to upgrade your forum to recent version of myBB as earlier versions have security issues
moreover myBB 1.4.x is no longer supported here ...
