Requirement: For access to internet, Music , Film.
Budget: 1500 USD
Location: Why location is important?
well, if you are around US / UK then my suggestion is to select from Sony Vaio / Dell / Toshiba
AND if you are around Arab countries then I suggest to select from Asus / HP-Compaq / Lenovo
I live in Iran.

such general division depends on suggestions / reviews from the sites I use ...
Sony, much of Dell - overpriced.
The rest of Dell's line - cheap junk.
Toshiba - not bad, nothing spectacular.
3 years ago I would have recommended Gateway, but Acer switched the high-end laptops to their name (they own Gateway). Nice, but there's better - ASUS. IMO, they make about the best laptop for the money these days. High end, great quality, good price.
Dell if we need immediate repair and a lease, otherwise ASUS. And we buy a lot of laptops. (Unless you need customer service or tech support. ASUS still has to learn how to do those things. No one is really great at it unless you're a corporate customer.)
Asus-Acer-Then very expensive overpriced other ones. I bought an 1100 HP. For an HP it was bad. Looking at the Asus or Acer ones i could've gotten... It is a regret.
ASUS, they've never let me down.
