i think many people find something do not want to see display the forum but the content at forum. so i think portal as index site. so at homepage portal then the other page forum...
Please answer my idea....its for all our aims
Nope. I never used portal in any of my Forums, and i believe there are lot of people in my criteria.
It should stay how it is now.
so what do you think about it??
I'll never use the portal as the index. If MyBB ever did this by default, I'd slap the devs so hard that it would change back (Strong opinion, I know

).
There's already the option to use the portal page as the index. That will suffice imho.
I use the portal as my index/home page, but my forum is in a subfolder. The portal is customized slightly to cover the non-forum features of my site.
its totally doable and should be an option. mybb 2.0 comes with two files, forums.php that works solely as as the forum index and index.php that works as the portal or index depending on the switch. with the Yii framework and Views this should be totally doable.
Then the menu items are dynamic based on the switch and links are correctly set. the forums.php never needs to be used if the switch is set to "index as home" vs "portal as home".

Same... I don't even link to "portal.php", I showed the page to some of the members and they said "IT'S CONFUSING!"
I always prefer to see my beautiful forums when I first land on my website

if your site is just a forum, then the regular index is fine. if you have other content, then you should consider the portal or some other home page so that uses know there is more to your site than the forum, even if it is the main attraction

No! If your forum is just a part of your website, you should put it in a different folder (usually website.com/forum/ or forum.website.com ) and then link to it from the index... you can put your main content as your index...
Your visitors should land on your forums index when they decide to go to your "forum" and not land on your forums portal...

Never use MyBB for something else than a forum! MyBB = your forum!
Example: when you go to mybb.com, you have many sections, but if you decide to visit the forum
http://community.mybb.com/ , you would not want to see this page first:
http://community.mybb.com/portal.php !!

You can use MyBB for stuff other than your forum. Its not that hard and it makes thing very easy integrate all areas.
My entire site is based around MyBB in some form or another. Even my Coppermine install is bridged with MyBB and wrapped in MyBB header and footer code. My reader's rides content, my technical DIY articles, the classifieds, and more are all MyBB plugins (either released or my own custom ones)
Still, MyBB is a forum software, if you really want other things than that, you should use other softwares...
