hmn, it doesn't appear to be changing when I change the hex code in the thead background class...

this is what the code is:

#a51516 url(images/mycleanred/thead_bg.gif) top left repeat-x

the hex code above is the default, I switched it back after realizing that changing it did not change the color. does the color on the thead_bg.gif image need to change?

Yeah. the image has to be say blue if you want it blue, green if green etc.
