I would like to add a box to display my twitter updates on the portal.php.. If this is at all even possible, how would I do it??

if it is html code then you can directly use it on portal templates ;
if it includes java script then you may have to experiment ...

thank you for the response!! lemme see if i can find the code someplace and then i'll post my findings so this thread can be properly resolved ^_^

haven't had time to check this out and frankly, i don't need it anymore. i believe there is a side bar extension where you can paste html in, so if i get the html, i would just paste it there and voila!! thanks so much for the help anyways ^_^
