especially if a person has already modified the templates from what the plugin adds by default

i'll add a post to the suggestions forum, hopefully it can be added in 1.6.6, should be easy as an optional parameter

I agree that the hook is the proper way to handle this situation, just that word about the hook needs to be spread.

We used to have a page in the wiki which listed all the hooks and where they are found. Unfortunately that page is woefully outdated.
