How can I change just the background color? Or even set an image for it?

Okay,
Go into ACP > Templates/Style > YourTheme > global.css

Find:

body

Change the background property value to #COLORHEX for a color --- or url(/path/to/image.jpg) for an image.

Where #colorhex represents a valid hex value.
