my online row reads

the problem I have is
if the user is viewing a thread the display is like

if the user is viewing a forum the display is like

where it should display

I guess there is a problem with where {$location} is built. any ideas ?
have you checked for any corrupt files thru file verification tool at tools & maintenance section ...

Yes I have this only showed member.php which I edited to redirect the user when they logout, rather than index.php the user is redirected elsewhere, which I would guess would not cause the error (I have uploaded a new copy and no difference)

This was lose to the answer, I installed the global templates plugin and produced a global template which was called from the header templates
so the plugin works but the following template does not
