when i try to merge i get a message saying "The SMF 2 database could not be found in '(INSERT DATABASE HERE)'. Please ensure SMF 2 exists at this database and with this table prefix."

are you sure your putting your smf database details in when asked to? it is easy to be confused and to point to your MYBB boards database?

i use an entirely different database, the one for the current mybb is called ggforum and the one im transferring from is called blarg

1. Make sure the db username you are trying to use has all permissions to smf db.
2. Check spelling of db user and db name.
Examples:
DB name: joe123_smfdb
DB user: joe123_joedirt
If all else fails, submit a thread in private inquiries forum and have someone look @ it.

still having same error message. could be that i exported and imported tables from old sql from different hosting.

If you're getting this error then you either:
A) Are not putting in the correct connection details to the SMF forum
or
B) You've installed a MOD that alters the table the merge system looks for in order to find SMF.
