Id like to add things to individual headers to certain boards, so it shows something above the thread list, how would I do that?

you can use forum rules feature to display whatever you like for individual forums .. [wiki]Admin_CP_Forum_Management#Forum_Rules[/wiki]

admin panel --> forums & posts --> Forum Management --> edit forum --> Additional Forum Options --> Forum Rules
