Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post question regarding 1.4.
I havent visited this forum for quite sometimes and I saw 1.4 forum is now archived and cant post in it.

So I am basically having problem typing in my forum.
It seems that whenever I have ' symbol or " symbol, it will automatically be translated into \' or \" when I press Save button.
This also happened in the AdminCP, which now turned out messed-up the whole forum.

Anyone can advise or have a clue what's gone wrong?

Thanks
Hello, my name is Sparkks and I'm going to help you today!
You might want to instead of posting a " you should post this HTML ASCII code: "
and for ' you can post: '

Here is a reference for you:
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_ascii.asp

Also, you may want to think about upgrading to 1.6 because 1.4 has major security issues!
Thanks, Sparkks. It works.
I find it strange as I can use ' and " before with no problem, and suddenly it just won't work.
Umm some kind of meta tag helps it.. I'm not sure if it's this one or not.. but I could be completely wrong.

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
where / which html file should I put this meta tag?
In your headerinlcude template, which is under Ungrouped Templates.
You shouldn't be using 1.4 anymore, as it's not updated.
Thanks you so much for the helps!
The cause here is probably nothing that's been mentioned in this thread, it sounds more like magic quotes is enabled, and needs to be disabled. It's nothing to do with character encoding at all. The reason it suddenly started happening is probably because your host recently upgraded to PHP 5.3 which is when this became a problem.

And yes, you should also be using 1.6.
Where do you turn turn off the enabled "magic quotes?"
