EDIT: The problem was nothing to do with advanced WYSIWYG, it is a great plugin but I didn't like it/think I needed it in the end.
I tried out the advanced WYSIWYG editor and decided I didn't like it so I deactivated and then uninstalled it. However now the normal editor doesn't display correctly at all.
None of the icons display (smiley box to left fully functional though). In firefox the "font" and "text size" display but just as words. In chrome there s 2 missing image placeholders. Bottom right (insert video) and top left. Clicking insert video brings up its dropdown list.
Can anyone provide a solution?

Ok, never mind... Turns out Cloudflare's rocketloader didn't like the css file for it and changed its path so that browsers fail to load the css file.
Might help anyone out who has this problem though
