Setting up a new domain name, is it possible to have both URL's (the current URL and new) working at the same time, if so, how?

So far in my testing I've not been able to get both working properly at the same time.

thanks
Hello Royel.

Giving us a little bit of more information would be helpful because at this time, I don't know what control panel are you using like it could be hosted with bluehost or someone else. however, by default if you go to your Cpanel, you will find what you are looking for:

Cpanel -> Domains:

In there, you can have two link directing to one website.
Hey Sky, the issue is not with getting the URLs to resolve to my server, it's with the forums not liking the different URL, logins don't work with the new URL, I would like to keep both URL's working so that users have plenty of time to update bookmarks or continue using the old URL if they want.

I will eventually force them to use the new URL, but it's not something that has to happen right away.

Also, I do not want to redirect either of the URL's to the other, there should be a way for me to have both working simultaneously, however the forum software has some hard links to the original URL and this is where my problem is, I'm not sure how to make both URL's allow logins etc.
Could I install another copy of the forums for the new URL and just use the same DB for them both?
admin panel --> configuration --> settings --> general configuration <-- here board URL & cookie settings are important for forum running
if you cannot log into admin panel then first change the required settings in ./inc/settings.php file AND then in admin panel

ranjani, what are you telling me here?

I'm not sure I follow this, how does this help me allow the forums to work properly from 2 unique domain names?

well, I haven't seen it ... Edit : as you know, ./inc/config.php file consists of the database details .
you can try using the same database details for both forums AND check how it goes ...
Anyone knows if there is a working method to run several alsias domains for the forum?
It is possible, just now wise. You could edit inc/settings.php with some php "if" statments to see what domain is accessing the website, but from an SEO POV it would dock search engine ratings due to duplicate content.
What, do you want to redirect one of them to the other? If you want to have whole new forum under the same host, you can go into your control panel and select 'Domains'

Hit addon domains and add the domain name. You might not be allowed depending on your hosting plan.

Now you need to go into your domain names control panel and enter the correct nameservers.
