How can I add a user to a private (or any) group?
ACP > users > Search the user > Edit his profile > Update its usergroup.
Edit : not seen above response Smile

simple method : browse to user profile on the forum (i.e. click on user name) - on right side column you have Edit this user in Admin CP
- click on it - system prompts to log into admin panel -- it leads to user profile --> click on profile tab --> here you can change :
Primary User Group , Additional User Groups , Additional User Groups
Thanks, ranjani.

I read the Wiki on User groups and given that the ""yes" permission overrides any "no" permission" ... what is the functional difference between primary and secondary user groups? it would seem if a user has permission to view one forum, it grants permission to view all the others.
^ it may be better to not use permissions based on additional groups as it is conflicting with primary group permissions ...
forum permissions based on primary group should work without any problem ..

But I am trying to restrict access by the registered group (primary) to a secondary forum. Am I supposed to move hundreds of members to a new group just to permit a few to view a private forum? That seems incredibly cumbersome.
