I have created a forum - Sunrise - but when I set permissions to disallow registered members to view it, it is visible to that group!

It is only invisible to Guests.

Why?

Make sure you untick everything for that usergroup.

As you can see in the screenshot, everything is disallowed for registered members in that group, and in all the subforums (even though those permissions should be inherited).

What else is there?

Click Edit Permissions and check there, you must have some custom permissions set otherwise it would just say Set Custom Permissions
