Why is .gif still the default image type for MyBB? I'm genuinely curious, I find myself and many others always changing every image to .png because the transparency on a .gfi is horrid. Is it to save file space?

Images will be PNG by default. This has been stated many times already.

You have to remember 1.x series has been around since like 2002/2003.

Some browsers (IE) still have issues with PNG transparencies.

The most recent IE (and a few versions before) handle it pretty well. If you're using anything lower than IE6...I mean...well, come on now.

Anyone who uses ie obviously doesn't care about their browsing experience anyways.
