do you mean a redirect from index.php to another file
eg if you click a "home" button you are currently directed to the mybb index.php and you wish that to direct to another page ?
If so you will have to make core edits to cover log outs and the navigation line ... I have done a mod like this but to be fair I found it easier to leave the core edits and just alter the templates to force the user to the page you want
