ive just downloaded MyBB and in the installation instructions it says to:
"Chmod the following files to 666 (ie, make sure that PHP can write to them).
./inc/settings.php
./inc/config.php"
how do you do this?
im new to all this and dont really understand much of it
In your FTP client, highlight the two files on the server side and select "Permissions" or "Chmod". Then either enter the value (if the ftp client supports it) or select readable and writable by everyone.
ive got FlashFXP, but i cant seem to find "Permissions" or "Chmod". I've read the help file on the FlashFXP website but all that says is
"...do this by selecting one or more files and pressing the CTRL-O key combination, or you can also right-click and select Attributes (CHMOD) from the menu."
this doesnt work. is it because im using the 30 day trial version?
No, the trial is fully functional.
It will only work if your server is a linux based server, and you have the files selected in the remote file list.
Another option is - you should have a control panel for your webserver and there usually is a file manager in there and you can set permissions thru that also
