I hope my first message are not too stupid

I have read a lot of message in this board and i have search in den Admin-CP but don´t have found the configuration for a smpt-server.
I want send a system-mail to the user on the first logon, and other thing, that my mybb-forum send mails.

But no only want know where there are the configuration (that i not found) i want understand the system. (.... are the mails send from the forum - have mybb a mail-modul, or need mybb a external smtp-server?)

MyBB uses the php function mail(). MyBB cannot send mails through an smtp server directly atm. You can specify the sender's address of emails from the board in your Admin-CP -> Board Settings -> Change -> General Configuration.
The custom function used to send the mails is calles mymail(); you can find this function in the file inc/functions.php.
