Easy is a relative term. What’s easy for you may not be easy for me and vise versa. I would need completely easy and completely risk free upgrade instructions.

And I'll need to know if my plugins will be affected.

And I'll need to know if any of my edits to templates will be affected.

And I’ll need to know if httaccess will be over written (I modified it).

And there may be other things I don’t know about that may be affected.

And or things I changed or have forgotten or that I don’t remember right now that may be affected.

Only if you've edited the default theme.

No because it's named htaccess.txt in the package. You can simply delete it after.

Nothing else should be affected as long as you haven't made any core edits that you haven't noted down.

That's what backups are for. It takes two minutes to backup the files and database. The more you leave your forum outdated, you just might find it even harder to upgrade in the future. Plus when we stop supporting the 1.6 series we won't be able to provide you with support. Just a few reasons why you should consider upgrading asap.

I read that page and just as I feared it's a nightmare.

I have no frigging clue how to block access with httaccess.

Plus it sounds like I need a full upgrade and there's no clue about which version to choose.

And where is this blog post?

EPIC FAIL!!!

That's optional. Upgrading takes a matter of minutes, unless you're running high traffic forum I don't see any need to.

Upgrade to MyBB 1.6.8.

On the blog.

Simplified version of upgrading:

1. Back up files and database.

2. Upload MyBB 1.6.8 to your forum root. (Can be found on the downloads page)

3. Navigate to http://yoursite.com/install/upgrade.php

4. Follow each step. It's a similar process to installing MyBB but with less typing. Click, click, click.

5. Take a look at your newly upgraded forum and make sure nothing is broken.

Upgrading from previous versions is a little harder as you have to use the full package. If you upgrade MyBB when a new version is released you only need to use the changed files package which is less hassle.

Thousands of people have gone through upgrading their forums with no issues. And if an issue does arise, that's what we're here to help with. Smile
@Nathan
What are the questions I must answer during the upgrade?
Are there any screen shots of the upgrade script steps I can view?
Here's a video which shows the process.

Skip to about 3:00 to see the upgrade script being run.
