I am using miahost, they had a mybb install program i tried to use. It did install mybb but did not upgrade my org BB. So I could use the normal login to still get to the old 1.63 BB. The softalusis(spelling ?) email ling let me get to the empty 1.66 BB.

I think the problem is the install package made a mybb361 sql file and not a mybb sql file.

went to see if I could fix or rename the files, but looks like miahost did some maintenance and the 1.66 upgrade stuff is all gone.

looking for tips on this, it's my 1st time, so be gentle.

I would just install manually. I used to use Softaculous to manage mybb too, but I noticed how easy it was to upgrade and otherwise manage.

I used to be confused with upgrading too.

1.6.6 was my first manual one too.

Basically, you just upload each changed file to its appropriate location, and navigate to yoururl/install/upgrade.php . Select your version that you are upgrading FROM (1.6.3). Then just click next until it is done.
